Psychic Attachments are much discussed in the paranormal community.  Many investigators have reported that they have had an entity follow them home.  We always  ask a client if they ever “played” with an Ouija Board. Often they report that, yes, they had, and their problems started soon after that.

Why is that? It’s all about energy!  When we need energy we stop and eat. That’s our fuel.  Since spirits don’t eat, they need to find another source of energy.  That’s why we often have the phenomena of the batteries in our equipment being drained, even though we replaced or charged them before an investigation. And that’s why they are attracted to us, especially those of us who are sensitive. They can feed off our energy.

Sometimes during an investigation an inexperienced team member will say something like “use my energy” or even “you can come home with me”.  We’ve all seen TV programs where the investigators offer this kind of invitation.   Those of us who know better are shocked at the foolishness. Since our body is our physical vehicle in this world, what we are actually doing when we invite an entity to use our energy is to actually pick up a hitchhiker!

It is also possible to pick up one of these parasitic entities without even knowing it.  Because of our state of mind at the time of the investigation, we may be more vulnerable to an attachment.  Being just plain tired, ill, or stressed out by family problems, financial issues, or work can deplete your energy and leave you open to negative influences.  Symptoms of these sorts of attachments are headaches, insomnia, difficulty in focusing or concentrating or just feeling “spacey”, etc. Many of us have felt this effect during an investigation, especially those of us who are sensitives.

So how do we protect ourselves from psychic attachment?  As Patricia Marin says in her article How Do I protect Myself During a Paranormal Investigation? “…it’s essential to shield and ground properly before and after (my emphasis) each investigation.”  She also suggests that “A team is only as strong as its weakest link, and if you have someone who’s vulnerable, it affects everyone.”

Once you ground and shield you should be relatively safe during the investigation. However, if you feel spacey, or start having a headache, remove yourself from the location, and re-ground and re-shield before returning to the scene.

If you have had these experiences or have something you don’t agree with, I would love to hear your thoughts.

(Part II will cover the topic of grounding and shielding.)
